Strategic Planning:  A Practical Approach That Achieves Results

Berneitha McNair Consulting (BMC) can facilitate the strategic planning process and write an outcomes-driven three or five-year Strategic Plan.  This service helps nonprofits and community action agencies achieve their mission to help at-risk individuals and communities improve their quality of life.
In the aged of increased accountability and competition, strategic planning is critical in helping agencies determine where they are and where they want to go, while also setting BROAD goals, SMART objectives, and strategies to achieve desired outcomes. The strategic planning approach offered by BMC goes a few steps further as follows:

1. To help agencies enhance their capacity to achieve results;
2. To provide intentional coaching to correct issues and problems identified in the SWOT and self-assessment conducted by BMC; and
3. To promote a holistic service business model and continuous improvement environment.

As the former chief executive of a community action agency, Berneitha has experience in completing strategic plans and implementing the strategic direction that was approved by the Agency’s Board of Directors. Additionally, in her role at Berneitha McNair Consulting, she has facilitated the strategic planning process for several community action agencies.  The strategic plans develop by BMC achieved the following: 1) Complied with the requirements of the Community Services Block Grant (CSBG) Organizational Standards; 2) Incorporated Results-Oriented Management and Accountability (ROMA) into the plan; 3) Determined strategic issues and priorities based on the SWOT analysis, community assessment results, and self-assessment; 4) Contained impactful family, community, and agency goals; and 5) Included an intentional implementation and evaluation section. BMC also designed a strategic planning quarterly tracking form to help community action agencies measure progress and accomplishment of benchmarks.
